New Delhi : With the arrest of the factory owner namely – Mahesh @ Tony (Age 33 years), R/o Barwala, Delhi, the staff of DIU/Outer-North District has busted one factory (Barwala, Delhi) involved in bulk production of duplicate “TATA SALT”.
The most surprising part of the recovered duplicated Tata salt is that each of the packing Cover/pouch was so intelligently printed that if the customer used to scan the QR code printed on the duplicate packing, then the same used to lead to Tata’s website as genuine.
INCIDENT:
In recent past, it was learnt that adulteration in food articles had increased at an alarming stage, which was very hazardous for the health of people. Sh. Rajeev Ranjan Singh (IPS), DCP/Outer North District had instructed the team of DIU/Outer-North District to crack the nexus of Food Adulterators especially “SALT” because Salt is mandatory part of everyone’s Kitchen.
Sh. Sanjay Kumar, authorized representative of M/s Tata Consumer Products Ltd. had given his complaint regarding manufacturing of fake/duplicate“Tata Salt” in the area of SB Dairy, Outer North District, Delhi. On receipt of this complaint, local intelligence was developed and the facts of the complaint were ascertained.
On 16-07-2021, a team comprising – Inspr. Arun Dev Nehra, SI Manoj, SI Ajay, SI Ram Dev, ASI Bhupender, W/Ct.Seema & Ct Sanjit was constituted under the supervision of Sh. Dinesh Sharma, ACP/DIU/OND. The team conducted raid in the factory being run in a Godwan/Premises situated in, Jain Colony, Barwala, Delhi. Huge quantity of duplicate TATA Salt including fake packing material, Electric Weighing Machines, Electric Sealing/packing Machines & Sewing Machine etc. were recovered. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 382/21 U/s 63 Copy Right Act & 420 IPC was registered at PS SB Dairy, Delhi and accused person was arrested.
INTERROGATION:
During interrogation, accused Mahesh @ Tony revealed that he had been in the office of one Property Dealer where he came in contact with one Master Ji. Master ji was in the business of trading of packed food items and instigated the accused to start his own business of duplicate Salt.
Accordingly, one year back, the accused started his factory of Duplicate “Tata Salt” in the rented premises situated in Jain Colony, Barwala, Delhi. The accused used to pack very inferior & cheap salt in 1Kg duplicated packing of Tata Salt and to sell the same as genuine one.
The accused revealed that he used to purchase the duplicate packing material of Tata Salt from his source in Naya Bazar, Delhi at the rate of Rs. 2/- per pack of 1 Kg. The accused further revealed that he used to pack only TATA brand because everyone has full faith in the brand “Tata” and Tata salt is most selling item. The accused revealed that he used to sell the duplicate “Tata Salt” in different parts of Delhi & NCR.
CASE WORKED OUT:-
- FIR No. 382/21, dated 16.07.2021, u/s 63 Copy Right Act & 420 IPC, PS SB Dairy, Delhi.
RECOVERY:
1) Total 33 White Plastic Bags (Fake Printed Katta’s of Tata Salt) containing 40 Packets of 1 kg each of duplicate “Tata Salt”.(Total 1320 Kgs duplicate “Tata Salt”).
2) Total 24 White Plastic Bags/Katta’s containing 40 Packets of 1 kg each of duplicate “Tata Salt”. (Total 960Kgs duplicate “Tata Salt”).
3) Total 09 White Plastic Bags/Katta’s containing Loose Fake Tata Salt 40 Kgs each. (Total 360Kgs duplicate “Tata Salt”).
4) Total 915 printed duplicate/fake packing pouches (1 kg each) of duplicate “Tata Salt”.
5) One printed duplicate/fake packing Roll of duplicate “Tata Salt”.
6) Two portable Electric weighing machines.
7) Two portable Electric sealing/packing machines.
8) One portable sewing Machine, used for sewing the plastic Katta’s of duplicate “Tata Salt”.
9) Total Weight of Recovered Fake/duplicate“Tata Salt” is 2640 Kgs.
