Ms. Sheetal Raj from Uttarakhand has become the youngest girl from the state to
climb Mount Everest.   The 22 year old, who hails from the Salmoda village in Pithoragarh district
has managed to create history.

Sheetal was a part of an expedition called ‘Climbing Beyond the Summit, Everest
Expedition 2019.’ Scaling the highest peak in the world was the second grand achievement for
Sheetal. The first achievement was scaling Mount Kanchenjunga, which is currently the third highest
peak in the world. Her name has been recorded in Golden Book of World Records. Sheetal Raj is a
graduate in Sociology and her interests include mountaineering. She had said that her interest in
mountaineering was sparked when she was only in the 9th grade. This was when she was introduced to National Cadet Cops (NCC).

Today i.e. 29.05.19, Ms. Sheetal Raj visited PS IGI Airport to meet the women police
officers working in this unit and boost their morale by sharing her experiences of scaling the highest
peaks. All the present women officers welcomed her and she was presented a souvenir by the IGI
Airport Unit for her outstanding achievement. She spoke about struggles in her life and advised few
tips to overcome the difficulties and problems and achieve greater heights. She encouraged staff to
encourage their children to accomplish high goals in life.
