`NAMASTE GANG, leader Ikrar Ahmad arrested
New Delhi : A team of Special Cell/SR led by Insp. Shiv Kumar under the supervision of ACP Attar Singh has arrested a dreaded member of infamous ‘NAMASTE GANG’ namely Ikrar Ahmad @ Bhura (age 36 years) r/o New Mustafabad, Delhi. He has been arrested from near DDA Flats Tis Hazari, Delhi. One pistol alongwith 3 live cartridges has been recovered from his possession. One scooty used in commission of many robberies by the members of this Namaste Gang has also been recovered. Ikrar Ahmad is kingpin of Namaste gang and he is wanted in a case of MCOCA registered at PS Jagatpuri in the year 2018. Apart from MCOCA he is also wanted in more than 25 cases of robbery and assault on police in Delhi. He has disclosed his previous involvements in more than 3 dozen armed robberies committed by the members of his gang all over Delhi.
INFORMATION & OPERATION
There was information with Inspr. Shiv Kumar that Ikrar Ahmad who is kingpin of ‘Namaste Gang’ had made his hideout in Civil Lines area for last two months. Ikrar Ahmad along with his associates was involved in current spate of armed robberies committed by ‘Namaste Gang’ in Delhi. It was also known that Ikrar Ahmad was planning to commit robberies of huge cash in Delhi. Said information was developed by deputing sources in the area. Discreet surveillance was kept upon activities of members of this gang.
Inspr. Shiv Kumar received specific information on 12.07.2019, that Ikrar Ahmad would come near DDA Flats Tis Hazari, Delhi on the intervening night of 12/13.07.2019 between 12 night to 1 AM. Trap was laid near DDA Flats, Opposite St. Stephens hospital where Ikrar Ahmad riding on a grey colour scooty arrived at 12:20 AM on 13.07.2019. He was cornered and asked to surrender by the members of team, but he whipped out his pistol and aimed towards police team. Without losing patience, members of police team, in a quick reflex overpowered and disarmed him. One pistol alongwith 3 live cartridges was recovered from Ikrar Ahmad. Case under relevant sections of law has been registered in police station Special Cell.
INTERROGATION
On interrogation, Ikrar Ahmad disclosed about unique modus operandi of their gang while committing robberies in Delhi at gun point. He disclosed that members of his gang used to roam in a group of 3/4 on the roads in Delhi-NCR on two wheelers. Gang members especially targeted persons wearing gold jewellary or driving alone in isolated spots. After selecting their target, they used to follow his car. One of the members of gang used to ride parallel to the vehicle of victim. He used to pass smile at him, wave his hands offering ‘Namaste’ and request to stop the car. After that one of their associates used to cover the left side of car and when the driver rolled down the glass of the door, other members used to open the door at the gun point and forcibly sit in the car of victim. In the meantime, another associates used to come from other side and sit at the rear side. Another associate used to stop his motorcycle/scooty close to the driver side door of the car thus blocking the exit path of victim. In this manner the robbers completely sandwiched the car of their target and thereafter, members of this gang used to rob the occupants of car of their jewellery, cash, debit/credit cards and other valuables.
Accused Ikrar Ahmad disclosed that members of his gang are previously involved in more than 3 dozen such robberies. He himself is wanted in more than 25 such cases of robberies committed during last 2/3 years. He has been committing robberies for more than 20 years. He was first time arrested in the year 2004 in PS Hauz Khas in a case of arms act. Thereafter, he has never looked back and he alongwith his associates has been constantly committing robberies at gun point as above. He alongwith his gang members is also wanted in an attack on police in a case of PS Punjabi Bagh. In view of running of organized syndicate by the members of this gang, a case under MCOCA was registered against 7 members of this gang in PS Jagatpuri, Delhi.
Efforts to identify the more cases of robberies committed by Ikrar Ahmad and members of his gang are in progress.
PROFILE
Ikrar Ahmad was born in 1983 in New Mustafabad, Delhi. Ikrar Ahmad studied upto 12th standard. He opened a grocery shop but soon, fell in the company of drug addicts and started taking drugs. For quick buck, he joined the gang of notorious Javed @ JD, who remained head of this Namaste gang prior to his arrest. Since his arrest, Ikrar Ahmad was leading the activities of gang. Further investigation of the case is in progress.
