TWO SNATCHERS/THIEVES ARRESTED WHO COMMITTED SNATCHING/THEFT OF MOBILE PHONES ON STOLEN MOTORCYCLES

TWO RECEIVERS OF STOLEN MOBILE PHONES WERE ALSO ARRESTED WHO USED TO SELL THE STOLEN MOBILE PHONES AFTER CHANGING IMEI NUMBER

FIVE STOLEN TWO-WHEELERS, 50 STOLEN MOBILE PHONES AND DEVICES/DONGLES USED TO CHANGE IMEI NUMBERS OF MOBILE PHONES OF DIFFERENT COMPANIES

New Delhi : With the arrest of two notorious snatchers/thieves namely (1) Sandeep Sharma @ Sonu aged 26 years r/o Shiv Vihar, Karawal Nagar, Delhi; (2) Deepak aged 28 years r/o District Pilakhuwa, UP and two receivers of stolen mobile phones namely (3) Mohd. Samar aged 37 years r/o New Seelampur, Delhi and (4) Deepak Chauhan aged 22 years r/o Karawal Nagar, Delhi, the team of Special Staff/Central District has busted a gang involved in snatching/theft of mobile phones and after changing their IMEI numbers, they further sold the stolen mobile phones to passerby. Total 50 snatched/stolen mobile phones, four stolen motorcycles and one stolen scooty have been recovered and sixteen cases of theft/Auto theft and two NCRs of different police stations of Delhi have been solved.

INFORMATION, TEAM AND OPERATION

On 2.08.19, HC Satbir Singh of Special Staff/Central received information that two mobile snatchers/thieves namely Sandeep Sharma @ Sonu and Deepak are roaming on a stolen motorcycle and they would come at Ranjeet Singh Marg to sell the stolen/snatched mobile phone to their receivers. Acting upon this information, a raiding team led by Inspr. Lalit Kumar I/C Special Staff/Central consisting of SI Raj Kumar, ASI Baljeet, HC Satbir Singh, HC Rakesh, HC Sunil, Ct. Vinod, Ct. Dheeraj and Ct. Pankaj was immediately formed under the supervision of Shri Naresh Kumar, ACP/Operations, Central District.

The police team laid a trap near Lal Quarters, Press Road, Delhi. At about 12:30 PM, two persons came on a black colour m/cycle and waited for someone near Gate of Lal Quarters. At the instance of secret informer, both of them were overpowered and apprehended by the police team. They were identified as (1) Sandeep Sharma @ Sonu and (2) Deepak. On questioning about the ownership of the motorcycle, they could not give any satisfactory reply and on verification, it was revealed that the motorcycle was found stolen from the area of P.S. Gokulpuri vide e-FIR No 025787/19 u/s 379 IPC. On their personal search, 20 mobile phones were recovered and on verification, some of the mobile phones were linked with the cases of theft of different police stations of Delhi. Further, at their instance, another four two-wheelers which were stolen from different areas were also recovered.

INVESTIGATION AND INTERROGATION

On sustained questioning, they disclosed that they used to steal motorcycle/scooties with the help of master key. They further snatched/steal the mobile phones from different areas of Delhi on these stolen motorcycles/ scooties. They also disclosed that they used to sell these snatched/theft mobile phones to one Mohd. Samar r/o New Seelampur and Deepak Chauhan r/o Karawal Nagar, Delhi.

The police team again made raids at New Seelampur and Karawal Nagar areas and at the instance of apprehended accused persons, both the receivers who were identified as Mohd. Samar and Deepak Chauhan were also apprehended. 30 stolen mobile phones were recovered from their possession. Besides, the equipments/devices used for changing IMEI numbers of mobile phones of different companies as well as of Chinese mobile phone were also recovered from their possession.

On questioning, above both persons disclosed that they used to buy snatched/stolen mobile phones from different persons including Sandeep Sharma @ Sonu and (2) Deepak etc. at cheaper price and further sold to innocent peoples in crowded markets and from their shop also after changing their IMEI numbers so that the mobile phones could not be tracked by the police.

The modus operandi of changing IMEI numbers is a big hurdle for police to track mobile phones involved in crime. Further investigation is under progress.

PROFILE OF ACCUSED PERSONS

Sandeep Sharma @ Sonu has studied upto 7^th Thereafter, he left studies and started a mobile repair shop. To fulfill his requirements, he started committing crime.
Deepak has studied upto 8^th Thereafter, he left studies and fell in bad company. He became drug addict and to fulfill his requirements, he started committing crime. He was previously booked in case of M.V. theft vide DD No 19A, dated 07.03.2018 u/s 41.1(D) CrPC & 102 CrPC PS Anand Vihar.
Samar has studied upto 10^th standard. He runs a mobile repair shop in Seelampur area in the name of Baby Communication for last 7/8 years. He has good knowledge of computers and mobile repair. He is fond of living lavish life. To earn easy money, he started buying stolen mobile phones at lower prices and further sold these mobile phones to different people with sufficient margins. Later, he started changing the IMEI numbers of stolen mobile phones.
Deepak Chauhan has studied upto 10^th Earlier, he worked at the shop of one Akram in Karawal Nagar area. Later, Akram handed over the shop to him. He has good knowledge of mobile repairing. Due to less income, he started changing IMEI numbers of stolen mobile phones.
